The natural, no makeup makeup is today’s hottest trend. Most people believe you need a liquid foundation to achieve this “no makeup” look. That’s pretty much a myth. Cream foundations can provide excellent coverage from light to full.
What is cream foundation used for?
These foundations are easy to apply and buildable and offer more coverage than a liquid foundation, but with less weight. Creams are great for evening the look of skin tone, keeping skin hydrated, and achieving a flawless blend-able finish that simply cannot be achieved with liquid foundation.
First things first -Get the skin ready:
Apply dots of cream makeup on the face - the idea with cream makeup is that you don’t have to cake on multiple layers, since it’s cream, and won’t dry out during the blending process - you want to dot colors of cream where they would go naturally. Dot cheek color on the apples of the cheeks, use dots of your highlight or your lighter skin color through the center of the face, add a cream bronzer color to the forehead and cheekbones and across the nose for a natural look. If you like to contour, you can add contour color on the nose, jawline, and cheeks as well. Once your dots are in place you can do all the blending at one time- which is time saving also!
If you prefer a matte finish as opposed to a dewy look - once you are finished you can set the cream in place with powder. You can also set it in place with setting spray for long nights of dancing!
TIP #1:
If you're after a full coverage look, a brush is typically recommended while a sponge is better for skin-like coverage. I like to use a dry StansOut Sponge - it makes the most natural finish and removes excess makeup also.
TIP #2: Blend the foundation onto your neck as far down as possible. Also, lightly apply leftover product from the brush onto your ears to ensure all exposed skin matches your face. Don’t forget the sides of your neck, the collarbone and chest, and the tops of your shoulders if they are visible.
TIP #3: Before applying powder, lightly blot your face with a flat folded tissue to remove any excess sheen. This “blotting” helps to set and stabilize your foundation before applying a setting powder. Blotting also prevents powder from looking blotchy and creates a smooth, flawless complexion.
TIP #4: Never apply powder heavily. Only apply enough to produce a beautiful matte finish. If you can see the powder, you have applied too much.
